Episode 14. Thinking Creatively To Overcome Obstacles And Find Success - Shola Kaye
Wednesday Jun 30, 2021
Wednesday Jun 30, 2021
If things are not working out in your current job, it's important to take action and not stay stuck. The first step may not take you to your ideal destination but if you persist, hopefully it will. Shola Kaye and I discussed how this approach helped her to move on from a career in teaching which was not fulfilling, public speaking, her books and much more on Episode 14 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
How Shola avercame adversity to move from teaching to management consulting;
Exploring change when you’re not satisfied;
Creating more inclusive meetings;
How to gain greater self-confidence;
Following her childhood dream to become a professional singer;
How to manage nerves before public speaking, presenting at work or performing;
Developing your personal brand and managing your career;
Preparing for interviews and how story telling can help; and
Strategies to help communication at work.
Shola is a multi award-winning speaker, specialising in communication, leadership and D.E.I (diversity, equity & inclusion). She is passionate about helping organisations create an atmosphere of belonging for their people and for those individuals, in turn, to have the skills needed to make their full contribution with powerful and effective communication. She does this through workshops and consulting.
Shola has had an amazingly diverse career. After graduating from Cambridge University and Emory University, she worked for blue-chip corporates in the high pressure industries of investment banking and IT management consulting in New York and London.
She then pursued her dream of performing as a Professional jazz and Motown singer, both internationally and throughout the UK. Whilst still performing, she started her business, which she has been running successfully for a number of years.
She has performed for, or spoken in front of tens of thousands of people internationally. She has delivered for clients like American Express, Tate & Lyle and The United Nations, and been featured in or written for Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and the BBC.
She is the author of two books “Big Talk, Small Talk” and “How to be a Diva at Public Speaking”. I first met Shola through the Toastmasters programme, although she was a significantly more accomplished public speaker than me. Shola is a Distinguished Toast Master, the highest level you’re able to achieve.
Shola told me: "You've got to think “well is this how I want to spend a significant portion of my life” because time is the one thing that we cannot replace … but there's just something in your gut that says this isn't right and you just have to keep taking the next step and the next step … and eventually hoping that all those steps will take you to a place where this is where I need to be and the experiences I've had in the past all lend themselves to me being successful in this moment in this time that I'm at now”.

Episode 12. Work From The Inside Out
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
"There are ways that you can try to connect with somebody and let them feel seen and understood, it reminds me of something that Dale Carnegie said “be interested not interesting”, so take the focus off of yourself and show an interest in the other person but in a way where you are genuinely interested not just on the surface" Tammy Gooler Loeb kindly shared with me on Episode 12 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Tammy is an Executive and Career Coach, Speaker, Facilitator and the founder and host of the “Work From The Inside Out” podcast. She is passionate about working with clients to achieve growth and deeper satisfaction in their careers and work relationships. She does this by providing individual coaching, training, speaking programs and team facilitation in a wide variety of industries and professions.
Tammy brings over 25 years of professional experience to her work and is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach by the Coaches Training Institute and a graduate of the Co-Active Space Leadership Program. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Hampshire College and an MBA from Boston University.
Prior to establishing her practice, Tammy held a variety of positions in mental health services, higher education administration, public policy analysis and fundraising. Her practical knowledge and experience in organizational and leadership development, workplace communications, and change management builds a relatable relationship with clients striving for higher performance results.
Tammy is the author of a book also titled “Work From The Inside Out”, which will be published later in the year.
It was a particular pleasure having Tammy on the show as she has been a great supporter and invited me on to her podcast shortly after we first met last year. I had a great time on her show and this helped push me to launch my podcaast in January and a YouTube Channel shortly afterwards.
Tammy and I had a great conversation and discussed the following:
Forming Meaningful Connections and Developing Your Network;
How Her Parents Influenced Her Life’s Work;
Working In The Mayor’s Office In Boston & Insights Into Public Policy;
Starting The “Work from the Inside Out” Podcast And Writing Her Book;
Acknowledging Your Fears and Not Allowing Them To Stop Your Progress;
What Does Success Really Mean?;
Confidence and Reframing Negative Thoughts; and

Episode 10. Recycleye: Turning Trash Into Treasure
Wednesday May 19, 2021
Wednesday May 19, 2021
“Recycleye was Victor looking at the waste industry and also what I was doing in computer vision and then … here's some technology that could solve this problem and applying it to the industry … specifically on things that are currently manual” Peter Hedley told me on Episode 10 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Peter is the co-founder and CTO of Recycleye, a London-based intelligent waste management start up, which is training the world’s most powerful recycling robotics with machine learning to sort recycling waste in a more efficient manner. Recycleye was founded by Victor Dewulf, CEO, and Peter, who first met at the University of Bath.
Their team of technologists and creatives has developed computer vision algorithms that replicate the power of human vision to identify every item in entire waste streams – broken down by material, object and even brand.
Recycleye secured £1.2 million in seed funding last December with MMC Ventures and Playfair Capital leading the round, with participation from leading funds. They recently sold their first machine, which is an amazing achievement!
Peter has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bath and a Masters in Computer Science from Imperial College, London.
I first met Peter three years ago when he was setting up a Technology Club along with Jack Young and Sam Collins. I knew nothing about technology but was interested in learning more and became friends with Peter, Jack and Sam. Peter was helpful when I started designing a personal development App based on neuroscience and psychology and from this research came the Reframe & Reset Your Career Podcast and YouTube channel.
Peter and I had such a great conversation and we talked about the following:
His Interest in Technology and Pivot to Computer Science,
Meeting Victor and the start of Recycleye,
How He Finds New Ideas,
Technology as a medium of delivering content,
Reimagining your Career as a Start Up and Extracting Value for Your Skills,
The Reality of Working For a Start Up,
Thinking Creatively to Develop Their First Prototype,
Ways of Developing Creativity.
The Evolution of His Role As Recycleye Has Grown,
Switching Between Deep Work And Daily Tasks,
Managing Uncertainty On A Personal & Company Level
Finding A Path Into The Tech Industry, and
Fostering An Open Company Culture
